About the AASAO

Our History, Mission, Vision and Values

The Association of Animal Shelter Administrators of Ontario (AASAO), established in 1981, is dedicated to the promotion of a professional approach to the management of Humane Societies, contracted and governmental animal care and control agencies, and exists to serve and assist your organization.

The AASAO is... A non profit organization. It*s members include professional administrators and supervisors employed by agencies and institutions involved in animal care and control.

The AASAO is respected throughout North America for the way it represents animal care and control professionals.

The AASAO's objectives are to:

  • Recognize, enhance and promote the image and professionalism of animal care and control organizations and their administrators
  • Serve as an umbrella association in Ontario to support, cooperate and liaise with organizations and individuals who have an interest in animal care and control
  • Provide educational opportunities for animal care and control personnel and to advance knowledge regarding all aspects of progressive and innovative animal care and control programmes and management
  • Act as an information and resource centre for animal care and control materials and services

By striving to achieve those objectives, the AASAO hopes to enhance the value, effectiveness and standing of it’s members and at the same time, provide a significant benefit to the field of animal care and control.

Milestones and Achievements:

  • Brought together all stakeholders and established provincial standards for microchip performance, usage and technologies
  • Harmonization of animal care and control by-laws through information sharing among members, and through AASAO surveys
  • Has successfully blended Humane Societies, Municipal Animal Control, and private animal control organizations into it’s membership
